History of the Fenway Neighborhood 

As part of the extensive Back Bay landfill project in the late 19th century, the Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood became a part of Boston, originally an uninhabited swamp in Brookline. Fenway Park, the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball, and Boston University, an educational institution, were the two fastest-growing areas of Fenway in the early 20th century. Currently, it is Boston’s busiest cultural and commercial area, filled with restaurants, shopping malls, museums, and arts venues.
